    Peter Sutton

    Professor Peter Sutton (BWS 1950-1957) 

    Peter Morgan Sutton, elder son of Sir Graham and Lady Sutton, trained in medicine at University College London, where he obtained an honours degree in anatomy, and at University College Hospital Medical School, qualifying in 1956. Successive promotions from Graham Scholar, led to his becoming Reader at University College Hospital Medical School and Vice Dean at the hospital from 1973-1978 before making a major career change at 47 when he became the first director of the Public Health Laboratory Service Centre for Applied Microbiology and Research (CAMR) in 1978, a position he held until his retirement in 1992.
