    Support Us

Bishop's wouldn't be Bishop's without the encouragement, commitment and generosity of parents, staff, alumni and the wider community.

Since 1890, Bishop Wordsworth’s Grammar School has been sustained by a tradition of generosity, with each generation benefitting from the support of those who came before. The ambition to offer an exceptional education reaches far beyond the standard curriculum, but rising costs and limited government funding make this increasingly challenging.

Department for Education funding covers only the essentials needed to deliver the national curriculum including salaries, teaching resources, utilities and basic maintenance. It does not however fund major improvements to our facilities, our broad enrichment programme of trips, visits and more, or the specialist care required to preserve our Grade II listed buildings.

To help bridge the gap between basic government provision and the full Bishop Wordsworth’s experience, we have launched the Above and Beyond Appeal. Donations support improvements to our buildings and facilities and the co-curricular and enrichment opportunities that define our School, including lunchtime Clubs and Societies, extended Careers support, Art and Music resources, Sport and Adventure equipment, STEM activities, pastoral extras and much more.

All donations to our Above & Beyond Appeal, no matter what size, are invaluable. Every contribution you make to Bishop Wordsworth’s  makes a direct and meaningful impact on our students. You can also choose to remember Bishop Wordsworth’s in your will with a legacy gift. However you choose to give, you will be helping to transform the lives of Bishop’s pupils - now and in the future.

There are a number of ways you can give:

    Match Funding

There is a fantastic scheme whereby employers provide funding for charities through their employees. It is a very simple yet immensely useful tool from which extra funding can be raised for our school. Generally speaking, banks and building societies, insurance companies, supermarkets, utilities providers, phone companies and car manufacturers are known historically to offer match funding schemes. Please contact your Human Resources department to find out if they operate a matching gift scheme. In most cases, the company will match your donation pound for pound up to a specific level.

    Sponsorship and Partnerships

In return for an annual fee, the BWS Business Partnership scheme offers your business the opportunity to network with other Partner members and to promote your services to our school’s vast network of parents, alumni, pupils and the wider Wordsworthian community. The scheme provides opportunities for your business including marketing, advertising and networking, access to bright young talent, and the chance to boost your CSR credentials. Find out more here
