BWS has an extremely proud history of superb examination results and full subject breakdowns can be found in the supporting pdf documents found below. Additionally, wider contextual information can be accessed on the Compare Schools and Colleges Performance national database.
Today we are celebrating another year of exceptional GCSE results, the students’ hard work and determination being reflected in fantastic outcomes across the board. This year, 65% of grades were awarded at 9–7, marking a 1.5% increase on last year’s results, particularly pleasing in light of static national outcomes. From our cohort of 156 students a highly encouraging 31 achieved only grades 9–7, a truly exceptional accomplishment and a source of pride for the boys themselves as well as our whole school community.
These results are a testament not only to the students’ resilience and commitment but also to the dedicated teaching and depth of expertise of the school’s staff both in the classroom and beyond and I am proud of everyone who has helped create the conditions in which our students could thrive.
As I write this, I am sitting with a sizeable team of staff engaged in the process of enrolling students for sixth form. While we expect to welcome back the vast majority of our cohort we also want to wish those heading out onto other pathways the very best in their endeavours. Additionally, we are looking forward to welcoming the most talented students from the wider area who are submitting their results online now and hope to join us in September.
Congratulations to all the students on their results.

I have just had the pleasure of celebrating the exciting futures of a great many students who chose to join us this morning in school and we should remember that few events in a young person’s life carry more transformational power than those three (sometimes four) letters on their results sheet which represent many months of determination and study. The culmination of all that hard work being distilled into an unforgiving set of characters, just a few pixels high is worth a moments consideration.
This year, the tenacious students at BWS have every reason to celebrate. Whether they are heading to university, embarking on a degree apprenticeship, taking a gap year or moving into employment, they should be buoyed by their excellent examination results. Our whole-school A*–B figure rose sharply to 80%, with a terrific 10 students securing straight A* grades and a further 46 achieving all A* or A grades. Together, these outstanding results represent 29% of our cohort of 195 students. Among them are 13 students going on to study medicine or veterinary science, at least 8 who have secured places at Oxford or Cambridge, and a further 130 bound for other high-performing universities.
Behind each success lies a unique story — and many students will no doubt wish to share their thanks in the coming days: to supportive parents, to teachers who went the extra mile, to friends who chose to support study over leisure, and to countless others. I would like to thank the staff at BWS for helping make these successes a reality, and to offer my heartfelt congratulations to everyone who has achieved grades they can be proud of.
