BWS is a single academy trust with a governing body organised around 4 subcommittees. Governors come from various professional backgrounds and contribute different skills – a short biography of each governor can be found in the resources below.
The Governing Body carries out much of its detailed work through a number of specialist subcommittees. These groups allow governors to examine particular areas of the school in greater depth before reporting back to the full Governing Body. This structure helps ensure careful oversight, effective decision-making and strong accountability.
- Finance, Audit and Risk: This committee oversees the financial health and sustainability of the school. It reviews budgets, monitors income and expenditure, and ensures that public funds are used responsibly and in line with regulations and guidance. The committee also oversees internal and external audits and considers strategic risks facing the school, helping ensure that appropriate controls and safeguards are in place.
- Admissions, Property and Health & Safety: This committee oversees matters relating to student admissions and ensures that the school’s admissions arrangements are fair, transparent and compliant with national guidance. It also monitors the condition, maintenance and development of the school’s buildings and site. In addition, the committee reviews health and safety arrangements to ensure that the school provides a safe environment for students, staff and visitors.
- Pay and Staffing: This committee focuses on staffing matters and supports the Governing Body in ensuring that the school attracts, develops and retains high-quality staff. It oversees pay policy, reviews salary recommendations, and considers staffing structures. The committee also ensures that staffing decisions are fair, transparent and aligned with the school’s strategic priorities.
- Evaluation: The Evaluation Committee meets annually to evaluate the performance of the Governing Body, to propose improvements if appropriate and to consider non-financial risk.
