HEAD MASTER'S WELCOME

Welcome to BWS – Mike Thorne, Interim Head Master 2025-2026

Founded in 1890 by Bishop John Wordsworth, BWS has been proudly educating children from Salisbury and its surrounds for over 130 years. At its founding the school sought to be a centre for excellence in education right at the very heart of Salisbury. This remains the case and although we have expanded somewhat from the original 40 boys to a cohort of nearly 1200 boys (yr 7-13) and girls (yr 12-13) we have kept to the vision of our Founder and seek to encourage all our pupils to develop their potential to the full by setting themselves the highest standards of excellence and achievement. I hope the pages that follow give you a sense of the ambition, character and community that define Bishop Wordsworth’s School.

BWS A Level results 2026

For the students receiving their A Level results at BWS today, an extraordinary number of doors are now wide open. This has been an exceptional year with 84% of all grades were awarded at A*–B, while 59% were at A* or A - a fantastic increase of ten percentage points on last year. The average grade achieved across the school was an A and the provisional progress figures are higher than ever demonstrating the considerable gains made by students during their Sixth Form studies with us.

There are some outstanding individual achievements within those figures. Ten students achieved A* grades in every subject they took, while 65 students completed their A Levels with exclusively A* and A grades. They deserve enormous congratulations.
