    Chemistry Race WINNERS

A team of sixth-form students from BWS has taken first place in a national chemistry competition.

The Year 12 and 13 team from Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury won the Rugby School leg of the Chemistry Race, a fast-growing competition that tests speed, accuracy, and problem-solving ability.

Held on Saturday, February 7, the event challenged teams to solve as many chemistry problems as possible within a set time limit.

Dr Colette Maunder, head of chemistry at Bishop Wordsworth’s School, said: “This outstanding achievement reflects not only our bright young chemists’ academic strength, but also their ability to think innovatively, embrace challenge, and work as a team under pressure.

We are immensely proud of their success and the enthusiasm they brought to representing our school at a national level.”

Their winning team, named ‘Trinitrotoluteam,’ competed in one of three parallel competitions nationwide and secured first place at the Rugby School event.

The team was led by Year 13 student Lucas, alongside classmates Ben and Aryan, and Year 12 students Millicent and Dylan.

The Chemistry Race was organised by students at the University of Cambridge in partnership with Rugby School.

Bishop Wordsworth’s was the only state school represented in the competition, with all other teams from the independent sector.
