If you have answered 'Yes' to any of the questions below on your application form for Year 7 in September 2027 then additional information must be supplied to the School.
If a pupil has a current statement of educational needs (SEN) including an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP), speaks English as a Second Language, or faces any other barrier to learning, whether medical or educational, or in the event that parents believe his circumstances may affect his performance in the entrance exam, they can request that reasonable adjustments are put in place.
Parents must complete the relevant Special Access Arrangements section on the application form to apply. Parents are required to submit supporting evidence to their application account by the deadline date given on the form and all information must be dated within the last two years.
Supporting evidence may include:
BWS follows current DfE regulations regarding access arrangements (KS2) and attempts to apply all reasonable adjustments. In determining access arrangements the School will consult with appropriate medical or educational professionals (such as the pupil's Headteacher, SENCo and the LA Educational Psychologist). In making such requests, parents implicitly consent to the School conducting this consultation process.
Parents will be advised of the outcome of that consultation in writing prior to the date of the exam itself and informed as to whether reasonable adjustments will be allowed.
If a pupil's poor performance in the exam is directly attributed to his special circumstances but the School has not been informed prior to the exam, his circumstances will not be taken into account retrospectively. Whatever the precise nature of the pupil's specific medical or educational needs, parents should always seek guidance from the School as early as possible.
